Not Guilty Verdict Following Complex Multi-Jurisdictional Investigation
Tank Jowett Solicitors successfully secured the acquittal of a client charged with the alleged importation of more than 200 kilograms of cocaine following a lengthy and highly complex trial at Lewes Crown Court.
The prosecution alleged that our client was involved in the large-scale importation of Class A drugs into the United Kingdom. Given the seriousness of the allegations, the case required meticulous preparation, strategic legal analysis, and extensive examination of substantial volumes of evidence.
The defence involved reviewing and challenging evidence gathered from multiple jurisdictions, including:
- Tachograph and vehicle movement data.
- Customs and importation records obtained from overseas authorities.
- Mobile telephone and communications evidence.
- International logistics documentation.
- Disclosure from various investigative agencies.
Our client was a professional HGV driver employed by a logistics company. The prosecution sought to rely on a combination of circumstantial evidence and material obtained from overseas agencies in an attempt to establish his alleged involvement in the importation conspiracy.
The defence successfully challenged the prosecution’s case through detailed analysis of the evidence, careful cross-examination of witnesses, and a number of important legal arguments concerning the admissibility and interpretation of the prosecution’s evidence.
The case was prepared by Simon Jowett and Ornela Marku of Tank Jowett Solicitors, who instructed David Gottlieb of Thomas More Chambers to represent our client at trial.
Following the presentation of the defence case, the jury returned Not Guilty verdicts, acquitting our client of all allegations.
