Tank Jowett Solicitors have secured a Not Guilty verdict for our client following a two-week Attempted Murder trial at Northampton Crown Court.

Our client faced an allegation of Attempted Murder arising from an incident in a prison involving a prison officer. The prosecution alleged that he had deliberately armed himself with an improvised weapon, targeted the officer, and attacked him with the intention of killing him. The Crown relied upon CCTV footage, witness testimony, and alleged comments said to have been made before and after the incident in support of its case.

The allegations were extremely serious. The prosecution’s case was that our client intended to kill the prison officer and, on that basis, charged him with Attempted Murder. Alternative counts of Wounding with Intent and Attempted Wounding with Intent were also left for the jury’s consideration.

Working closely with counsel, Tank Jowett carefully analysed the prosecution evidence and identified significant issues with the Crown’s assertion that there was an intention to kill. Whilst the incident itself was not disputed, the central issue for the jury was whether the prosecution could prove the specific intent required to establish the offence of Attempted Murder.

Following a trial lasting approximately two weeks, the jury rejected the prosecution’s case and returned a verdict of Not Guilty to the count of Attempted Murder.

The defence team was led by Partner Adnan Hussain, with Mandisa Knights of Furnival Chambers instructed as counsel representing the client at trial.

This outcome highlights the importance of meticulous preparation and a thorough examination of the evidence in serious criminal proceedings. Allegations of Attempted Murder carry the potential for lengthy custodial sentences and require careful scrutiny of every aspect of the prosecution’s case.
